Weight Loss Tips, Tricks, and Tactics – Part 1

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I personal lost 60 pounds in 2003. Here are some tactics I used to lose the weight.

Eat every three hours. This will keep your blood sugar stable. Try to eat real food at least three times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between your food meals take a good meal replacement shake or bar.

Never eat a carbohydrate by itself. This is basically all sugar. When you eat a carbohydrate by itself there is a sudden increase in sugar in the body. This causes the body to release insulin. However, the body releases too much insulin because it thinks more sugar is coming. The insulin basically grabs the sugar/carbohydrate and stores it to fat for use at some other time. Since your body released too much insulin there is not enough sugar to support the brain function. That is why you feel tired or sluggish. So you’re fatter and dumber.

Watch the gums and mints. Many of these little gums and mints contain calories, sugars, and everything else that is not good for you. Read the labels, if it has sugar in it do not eat it.

Eat foods that have 30% or less, calories from fat. Everyone is on this big no carbohydrate craze. However, did you know that 1 gram of carbohydrate contains 4 calories, 1 gram of protein contains 4 calories, and 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories? There are over twice as many calories in a single gram of fat, than in a protein or carbohydrate.

To find out how many calories are from fat check the label. The label will list the total calories and then list how many calories are from fat. If there are 100 total calories, and there are 70 calories from fat, that’s 70%, too high.

Give yourself one reward day to eat and drink whatever you want. You worked hard all week, reward yourself.

Alcohol is a converted to a sugar. Save it for your free day. If you do drink, it might also be helpful to take hydroxycitric acid capsules about 30 minutes before drinking. Hydroycitric acid is from the herb Garcinia Cambogia. This interferes with the enzyme that converts excess sugars into triglycerides, lessening the likelihood the alcohol will be stored as fat.

Quick Weight Loss!

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Perhaps you’ve heard the joke about the SHOCKING news headlines from the year 2050: “New study reveals that exercise and proper nutrition is the key to successful weight loss!”

It seems that we’re always looking for a quick and easy way to lose fat, but those darn studies and that reputable research just keeps getting in the way of our dream!

There’s always someone out there telling us we can lose fat without watching our diet and without any exercise. As much as we’d like to believe that’s true, deep down inside we know better. The ads promising that we can ‘get slim quick’ remind us of the ‘get rich quick’ infomercials we see on late-night television. Still, there’s no shortage of ‘get slim quick’ products out there…..

A YaHoo search of the term “Easy Weight Loss” yielded about 10,600,000 hits.

A Google search of the phrase “Quick Weight Loss” showed about 14,300,000 recommended sites to visit!

Looking up “Easy Fat Loss” on YaHoo revealed about 4,290,000 answers.

Finally, running a Google search for “I want to lose weight but I don’t want to exercise because I don’t have the time, money or will power” will bring up about 633,000 sites…..we’re not kidding!

Compare that to the Google results for “Weight Loss Truth”: only about 2,760,000.

+ PERMANENT FAT LOSS REQUIRES EFFORT

Let’s face it, there really is no good way to lose fat without any effort! Successful and permanent weight (fat) loss takes some time, it takes some effort, and it certainly requires some exercise! Consider what Dr. Gabe Mirkin had to say on the subject recently: “There are many products on the market today that promise to help you lose weight. None will help you unless they get you to exercise more and eat fewer calories.” (Source: The Sportsmedicine Institute, Inc.)

+ DON’T BE TEMPTED BY SHORTCUTS

So is it possible to lose weight quickly? Sure, but weight loss achieved quickly and/or by ‘cheating’ will never be permanent and is usually not healthy.

Remember the phen-fen pills that were popular just a few years ago? While they certainly helped you lose weight, they were withdrawn from the market in September of 1997 after being linked to the occurrence of serious cardiac valvular disease, and primary pulmonary hypertension.

Ephedra, another weight loss pill, was pulled from shelves on April 12, 2004. After a careful review of the available evidence about the risks and benefits of ephedra in supplements, the FDA found that these supplements present an unreasonable risk of illness or injury to consumers. The data showed little evidence of ephedra’s effectiveness, except for short-term weight loss, while confirming that the substance raises blood pressure and stresses the heart (Source: www.nccam.nih.gov).

Please note that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that ephedra was effective for ONLY short-term weight loss. Does that sound like a permanent solution?

There are lots of other ’shortcuts’ out there, from laxatives to harsh stimulants. There are also some honestly good products that can help us lose fat IF they are used in conjunction with regular exercise and healthy nutrition. Green tea is a good example. Clinical studies conducted by Dr. Abdul Dulloo, of the University of Geneva in Switzerland brought the conclusion that green tea weight raises metabolic rates and speeds up fat oxidation.

+ THE TAKE-HOME MESSAGE

So what’s the take-home message? The bottom line is that there is no ‘get slim quick’ miracle out there. The only way to achieve permanent fat loss by following the same advice we’ve been hearing for years: exercise regularly and watch what we eat!

Let’s watch out for products that claim we can achieve the body we’ve always wanted without diet or exercise. We know that’s not true, so let’s not be tempted by the empty promise.

Herbal Weight Loss Products – What to Look For and What to Avoid

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Herbal weight loss products are an excellent alternative to seeking medical assistance for weight loss medication, and in many cases are more safe and effective than traditional medications for weightloss. So what should you look for in an herbal supplement for losing weight, and what should you avoid? The list could go on and on, since their is literally a laundry list of herbs that will help you burn more calories, suspend and control appetite, and assist in fat burning.

We’ll start with an explanation of what herbal fat burners, appetite suppressants and natural thermogenic supplements can do for you. First, they can do the obvious – control your appetite so you eat less. Second, they can boost your energy levels, which in turn helps you burn calories more quickly and efficiently, and also gives you a little mood boost in the process. Third, they can help you burn fat by creating more “internal heat” (thermogenic energy), which in turn burns fat and helps to convert calories to energy rather than to fat.

Herbs to Look for in a Weight Loss Product

1.) Concentrated Green Tea Extract – Green Tea has been used as a powerful antioxidant and multifunctional remedy for disease, aging and weightloss assistant for hundreds of years.
Green Tea extract also contains natural substances called epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, which is a known cancer fighter and energy enhancer.

2.) L-Carnitine – This natural compound has several functions as an ingredient in herbal weight loss products and energy enhancing supplements. L-Carnitine is a central player in energy production and maintenance. It assists in the burning of excess body fat by enhancing cellular energy and activity in the brain.

L-Carnitine also improves mental and physical performance levels, helps to slow the aging process, decreases symptoms of depression and acts as a mood enhancer, and helps to support
bodily functions that typically demand high energy expenditures.

3.) Fucus vesiculosus otherwise known as Bladderwrack – Bladderwrack is an excellent hormone balancer, which in turn can help to control the appetite. Research has documented time and time again that hunger is directly related to
fluctuations in hormones and hormonal imbalance – in both men and women.

In fact, hunger is controlled by two hormones – one called ghrelin, which was dicovered by scientists in early 2001 as the hormone that regulates hunger and tells the brain when
it is time to eat. The other is a more well known hormone called leptin, which controls food intake and body weight and prolongs periods in between food cravings and urges.

4.) Chromium (this one is actually a mineral, but we’ll cheat a little here) – Chromium has been called a “miracle mineral” for its abilities to control and stabilize blood sugar levels. While I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a “miracle mineral”, I will say this – Chromium is a great addition to a weight loss product, since the mineral actually helps in fat reduction and the formation of lean, sculpted muscles through the
manipulation and contral of blood sugar, fat storage and the utilization of calories.

Herbs to Avoid in an Herbal Weight Loss Product

1.) Guarana – This herb is a stimulant that may cause nervousness, dizziness and sleeplessness in some people. There are individuals that tolerate this herb well, and for those people it can probably be an option for short term usage to boost energy levels and help burn fat.

2.) Ma Huang – Ma Huang diet products or supplements containing Ma Huang, which is just another form of the banned ephedra, are known to also cause nervousness, rapid heart beat and dizziness. Again, if you tolerate caffeine and other stimulants well, this may be a short term weight loss option for you, but is not recommended since there are so many other good herbs out there that will enhance energy levels and burn fat that have ZERO effect on your sense of health and well being, do not cause rapid heart beat of nervousness, and do not cause “let down” periods after the product has worn off.

3.) Cola or cola nut – Another stimulant. Try to avoid it if you can.

Well, we’ve covered the basics of herbal diet supplement shopping. Although this list is short, it should give you a basic understanding of what to look for and what to avoid when shopping online or in stores for your diet product.
Don’t forget, a good diet must be built on wise food choices and some kind of physical activity to be a success. Herbal diet products can help you get there – you just need to know what you’re getting!

The Rapid Weight Loss Diet Fact or Fiction

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Are there any effective rapid weight loss diets? Most nutritionists agree that any ultra low-calorie diets (that is, anything less than 1000 calories) can affect your body in a negative way. There are ways to help jump start weight loss, however:

1. Eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

In general, unprocessed and natural foods require more energy to digest and/or leave you feeling satisfied quicker. This will help your body increase metabolism and reduce caloric intake. Avoid refined grains such as rice and white bread.

2. Eat fiber.

Fiber helps you feel full faster, longer. The effect is obvious – you eat less. Any doctor worth his/her salt will tell you the most effective way to lose weight is to use more calories than you consume; think of fiber as a healthy, easy way to satisfy your hunger while dieting.

3. Cut back on sugar.

You can think of sugar as the reverse of fiber – it doesn’t make you feel full, and the insulin spike and crash that it causes will make you crave even more sugar. This is potentially an endless cycle, so it’s best to stay away from soda/pop, donuts, and other sugar-laden sweets.

4. Drink plenty of water.

Water is actually one of the most effective ways to lose weight. Doctors point out that it’s not about drinking lots of water, but enough to keep your body constantly hydrated – about 6-8 glasses a day. When you avoid dehydration, you increase your metabolic rate and suppress appetite – which slows weight gain.

5. Exercise

Yeah, this is the part we all hate – thankfully, you only need a moderate level of exertion to burn fat. In fact, all you want to do is just break a sweat while jogging or walking – anymore will shift your body into stamina training, instead of fat burning mode. Another bonus – exercising regularly keeps your body in a fat burning mode even when you’re not exercising.

Discover the Best Weight Loss Exercise Ever!

The Best Weight Loss Exercise

The exercise the experts are keeping a Secret. The easiest exercise in the world actually “Burns the Most Fat”!

There is only one weight loss exercise that’s the best fat burning exercise for everyone by far, there’s not even a close second.

However, most so-called weight-loss experts don’t teach this exercise, either because they are ignorant of the facts, or more than likely, because they can’t make any money from it.

They can’t make any money from the best weight loss workout, because you don’t need to join a gym, and you don’t need to buy any exercise equipment to do it.

People who advise that…

You have to go through all the different exercise routines on all the different exercise equipment in a gym, or buy all this weird exercise equipment, or that you need to be running for weight loss, are just giving you the runaround.

Weight Lifting As a Weight Loss Exercise

Many people who call themselves experts, make the claim that since muscles burn fat, you need to build big muscles so that you can burn more fat, and so…

You should work with weights, because that builds the biggest muscles.

That’s totally misleading, but it sells a lot of gym memberships, and lots of exercise equipment.

Many people are looking for a quick weight loss workout, and also, many fitness professionals (note that I didn’t say experts), believe that the harder you work out, the more fat you will burn, but…

That’s a Lie!

The people who make these kinds of claims, obviously haven’t a clue how the human body works as it relates to weight control, and they should probably look for some other line of work.

The Fat Burning Workout Or Sugar Burning

Yes it’s true that fat is burnt in the muscles, but so is sugar. All the really hard exercises where you sweat a lot and your muscles hurt, is burning practically nothing but sugar, and almost no fat.

Most professional teach that you have to work really hard to burn fat, and so the more motivated you are to have a fat burning workout, the harder you work, and the harder you work, the more sugar you burn, but practically no fat whatsoever.

You can go through all kinds of weight lifting routines for your weight loss workout, and even build big muscles, but they will be “sugar burning muscles”, not fat burning muscles.

If you’re a woman, you can build such big muscles this way, that you’ll begin to look like a Guy, but you’ll still be fat!

Walking for Weight-Loss

Realize that “walking for weight loss” is the absolute best weight loss exercise available. Unless you’re already very fit, walking for weight loss is a much better fat burning exercise than running for weight loss.

It’s all relative!

If you’re unfit and overweight, especially if you’re obese and a typical couch potato, then…

If you go running for weight-loss, you’ll burn almost nothing but sugar and you’ll probably be very sore the next day.

On the opposite extreme, if you’re an experienced marathon runner, then your body is a very efficient “Fat Burning Machine”, which burns almost nothing but fat during a run.

However…

Just ordinary walking won’t do it for you, as there are 10 Secrets which we teach you in the free Slim America weight loss Project, which turns ordinary walking into a very efficient fat burning workout, but that’s not all…

Not only is walking for weight loss a fast weight loss exercise and the best fat loss workout, but it will also a rebuild your metabolism so that you burn more fat the rest of the day, even when you’re not exercising.

So you see, walking for weight loss, is really the best weight loss exercise available to you, because you really rebuild your metabolism, and that’s the key to permanent weight loss.

All Natural Weight Loss Secrets Revealed

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

There are tons of fad diets and weight loss schemes being thrown at you every day. It’s hard to tell which ones work without emptying your wallet in the process. I’m going to put all those fad diets and schemes to rest. There is a way to lose weight quickly and safely and it can be found in your own kitchen cabinets. I know, I didn’t believe it at first either but after using these secrets, which are used by top celebrities every day and of course exercising and eating healthy, I have lost a tremendous amount of weight in literally no time flat.

Secret #1: Apple Cider Vinegar – The powerful health and healing qualities of apple cider vinegar has been known and used since 3000 B.C. It has been called by many, “nature’s perfect food”. Apple cider vinegar is very effective in detoxifying various organs in the body, breaking down fatty, mucous and phlegm deposits, preventing high blood pressure, and promoting weight loss. It literally has over 20 health benefits ranging from arthritis to headache relief to weight loss.

Secret #2: Cayenne – If you aren’t plagued by spicy food, try sprinkling a dash of cayenne on your food. It contains an ingredient called capsaicin that stimulates saliva, stimulates digestion and accelerates your metabolism at a safer level. It is also said to be unequalled for warding off diseases. A preparation in use in the West Indies called Mandram, for weak digestion and loss of appetite, is made of thinly sliced and unskinned cucumbers, shallots, chives, or onions, lemon or lime juice, Madeira, and a few pods of bird pepper well mashed up in the liquids. It can be used as chutney.

Secret #3: Ginger Root – Ginger was always known as a medicinal plant and a spice in India and China for thousands of years. Ginger has been used by many as a remedy for the common cold. Other benefits of ginger include its ability to cleanse the colon, reduce spasms and cramps, stimulate circulation, and aid metabolism. Many have used it to treat colitis, nausea, gas, indigestion, bowel disorders, morning sickness, motion sickness, vomiting, congestion, fever, and headaches. Asian medicine still uses it as a treatment for asthma, shortness of breath, water retention, earache, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Homeopathic practitioners even recommend it for sexual disorders.

An added benefit to Ginger is that it is a strong antioxidant and effective microbial agent for sores and wounds. How does Ginger work in the digestive system? It helps protect the gastric system by increasing the pH of stomach acid, reducing its acidity, thereby lower the rate of gastric secretions, and increasing digestive enzyme activity. By providing you with a clear head and by working as a metabolism aid, Ginger Root is the perfect compliment to any diet plan.

Secret #4: Potassium – A common practice with weight loss shakes and special dietary formulations is to add extra potassium for its diuretic attributes. It is one of the most effective and important nutrients to aid weight loss. Some healthy food that I eat on a regular basis which has a lot of potassium includes beans, peas, potatoes, grains, nuts, and fruits.

Secret #5: Bromelain – Bromelain is an enzyme that helps your body to break down and digest food. It is very useful in helping to digest proteins. It can be found in the pineapple plant. It was discovered in 1957 and widely studied. It is also useful for reducing muscle and tissue inflammation.

I have personally used these 5 secrets to shed pounds easily and effectively. But the benefits certainly don’t stop at weight loss. They have many other health benefits, which I have discussed. I know for a fact that top celebrities and athletes used these secrets daily to keep that perfect body you always see on television. I guarantee that by utilizing these secrets you will find your self healthier than ever. Along with proper diet and exercise you will see some amazing weight loss results using these secrets.

7,389,432 Weight Loss Tips Guaranteed To Help You Lose Weight

Monday, December 29th, 2008

A week or so ago, I was in the check-out line at the supermarket and saw a blurb on the cover of a magazine. The headline read: “Breakthrough! FAT LOSS VITAMIN!”, and the text beneath it said, “95% of us don’t get enough. Safely boost your intake and:

  • Lose 5 lbs a week!
  • Burn 30% more fat every day!”

The magazine was Woman’s World.

Being in the business of health, fitness, diet and weight loss, this claim intrigued me so I threw a copy of the magazine in the buggy, and read the article when I got home.

Very briefly, here’s what the article had to say: Most people don’t get enough Vitamin C, and Vitamin C can help your body burn more fat.

Now, this was interesting, and since I believe most people don’t get the nutrients they need, I was willing to go along with the idea of increasing your normal intake of Vitamin C, either by increasing the amount of things such as orange juice, which is good for you anyway and it contains a lot of Vitamin C, or by use of Vitamin C supplements.

The information in the article made sense, and, when I did a little independent online investigation, I found that apparently the article was reasonably accurate. I don’t have a particular problem with the information in this article, and agree that increasing Vitamin C could help someone lose weight.

This brings us to the slightly exaggerated title of this article.

Everyday, it seems we are bombarded with all these claims about weight loss, fat loss, diets and health. One person says their pill will deal with cortisol, which is the cause of weight gain. Another says their diet will “melt” the fat. Someone else wants to hypnotize you, and that will do the trick. The covers of many other magazines at the checkout on the day I bought my magazine had different tips, hints, diets, and weight loss solutions.

All these people can’t be telling the truth, can they?

Is weight gain the result of cortisol, poor diet, lack of exercise, not enough Vitamin C, lack of sleep, stress, too much beer, or just bad genes?

Actually, the answer to both questions is, “Yes…sort of…”

The actual biological process by which people get fat is known. The solution is also known, and it doesn’t have much to do with Vitamin C, cortisol, genes, or a lot of other things…directly.

A runner who wishes to run faster gets there by training at running and trying to run faster. However, that runner can also strengthen his or her legs by using weight training. They can improve their performance, or perhaps reach their goal faster, by eating a certain type of diet…maybe even making changes in that diet at different points of their training or competition schedule. If stress is inhibiting their performance, learning to meditate might help them put that stress behind them or at least relieve it enough so that their times improve. If their home life or work schedule is such that it interferes with their training, rest, or nutrition schedules, then making a change in those areas may improve their athletic performance.

Even so, the main thing in their running training is…running! Everything else just helps with the speed of development or the amount of progress that is ultimately made.

The same thing applies to most weight loss situations and so-called solutions. Increasing physical activity and eating reasonably are the two major things that bring about healthy, permanent weight loss. If, in your exercise program, you choose to supplement with Vitamin C, or get more sleep, or take something which reduces the effects of cortisol, or quit your job because it interferes with your weight loss program, then you will probably enhance the results. You will lose more weight over time, lose the weight a bit faster, or just find the whole process easier. However, the major portion of the weight loss (and improved health and enjoyment of life), comes from the basics of exercise and nutrition.

So what about the people who DID lose weight by breathing properly, or taking Vitamin C, or adding Chocolate to their diet?

People are all different, and so are the facts and factors of their lifestyles, education, upbringing, and genetic makeup. Someone who is one dress size bigger than she wants to be may get all the weight loss she needs from increasing HER Vitamin C intake. That does NOT mean that every woman will experience the SAME results. Another woman may need to lose a lot more than one dress size, and taking Vitamin C, while it might help her shed a few pounds and be more healthy overall, will probably NOT produce anywhere near the total results she hopes to achieve. If, however, she IS doing the right things to bring about weight loss, adding the Vitamin C may speed the process a bit and help get her to her goal a little faster,

Just as in the title of this article, the key word in all these claims is “help” whether it is stated or merely implied. True healthy, permanent weight loss will be the result of a combination of activity and nutrition. All the other things, which may certainly be of value, are just helping.

Quick Weight Loss Secrets

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

The Secrets have been in our family recipes, some even date back as far as 3000 BC. For years our Ancient ancestors have been using natural herbs and spices to heal and cure, even to take the weight off. For example: The Ancient Mayans used cayenne pepper which has been studied to increase the rate of metabolism of fats and carbohydrates. Some Additional research also indicates that cayenne increases production of epinephrine and nor epinephrine which together decrease appetite.

The Chinese have used ginger root for years for all sorts of things like cleansing the colon, reduce spasms and cramps, stimulate water retention, earache, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stimulate circulation, and of course to aid the metabolism. HCA (Hydroxycitric Acid), a natural appetite suppressant found in the rind of a small tropical fruit, Garcinia cambogia has been used as a condiment in Thai and Indian cuisine for years. Bromelain which is found in pineapple is very useful in helping with the digestion of fat producing enzymes that help curve the appetite that has been used by the Hawaiians and Tahitians for many generations for medicine purposes.

The powerful health and healing qualities of natural Apple Cider Vinegar have been known and used since 3,000 B.C… Cider vinegar is a powerful detoxifying and purifying agent. It breaks down fatty, mucous and phlegm deposits within the body. The List goes on.

Now just imagine what kind of results one could have if you combined all this past history into one capsule. Our ancestors have been using simple natural methods to cure all forms of ailments for years. To think how much time and money has been put into this industry to find the quickest easiest way to lose the fat, and all we had to do was unlock the secrets of the past.

I am not a Doctor or a Scientist or a Nutritionist or any thing close to all of these things. What I am tho is someone who loves his body and everything that goes in it. And believes that there is a cure for everything and it is just lying around. So let’s grab it and use it.

Common Sense Exercise Weight Loss Solutions for the Common Man or Woman

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Diet and Exercise. They are the inseparable twins that are seen and heard everywhere. You can’t have any sort of effective weight loss or fat loss without incorporating both into your daily regimen.

This article is going to focus on the exercise aspect. We’re not talking about power-lifting or marathon running, but exercise for the common man or woman.

My wife and I had joined a gym last September, but I had not stepped into the place until almost December. Why, you ask? I was afraid of the soreness and stiffness that accompanies the first several weeks of beginning an exercise regimen. Fear of pain kept me away.

Even my own disappointment at the condition of my body was not sufficient to overcome my fear of starting to exercise. After this past Thanksgiving, however, I weighed in at an all-time personal high. It was shocking, at least to the point that it inspired me to begin working out.

My fears ended up being unfounded. I faithfully take R+ Alpha Lipoic Acid (http://www.ralapure.com), which (among many other things) aids in circulation, and my muscles never really got sore at all.

I’m happy to have avoided the pain, but the whole experience got me thinking… it was fear that kept me away. What is keeping you away? For many people, fear may not be the issue. It may be that joining a gym is not convenient, too expensive, too difficult, or simply beyond their abilities.

I began to look around for recommendations of an exercise regimen that is easy enough for nearly everyone, and yet effective enough to facilitate a meaningful weight loss. Surprisingly, there is plenty of information to suggest that walking for a half an hour each day can do incredible things in a very short amount of time.

But… what if you can’t string together 30 uninterrupted minutes to go for a walk? The answer is simple… buy a pedometer.

The website DiabetesInControl.com (http://www.diabetesincontrol.com) published a study that proves you can achieve significant health benefits from simply walking briskly for 10,000 steps each day.

So, what can walking do for you? More than you might imagine. Walking helps to control body weight, blood sugar and levels of cholesterol. Walking at a brisk pace can burn around 300 calories an hour.

The folks at Diabetes In Control assembled a group of diabetics to participate in the 10,000 Steps A Day program. Each one was given a pedometer and asked to work toward increasing their daily steps until they reached 10,000 per day. At the beginning, the average person was taking 3,100 steps per day, so they had to increase by a significant, but not impossible amount.

After just three months, they saw significant improvements in blood glucose, weight, body fat, cholesterol, and overall fitness. Here are some of the average results:

LDL Cholesterol went from 114 to 98
Blood Glucose went from 182 to 153
Total Cholesterol went from 191 to 159
HDL (the “good” cholesterol) went from 36 to 48
Triglycerides went from 220 to 159
Average weight loss: 4.1 pounds

The study concluded with the following comments: “Over 15 patients reduced their medications, 6 eliminated some of their medications. 3 patients were able to get off all of their medications. Most lowered their blood pressure and had more energy. The average weight loss was 4+ lbs and everyone agreed to make the program as part of their lifestyle.” Wow, that’s pretty amazing stuff!

If you can walk for about thirty minutes at a good pace, you’ll find you are at or near the 10,000 step goal. If you can’t afford thirty straight minutes, here are some ways to increase your steps each day.

1. Park at the back of the parking lot. You’ll spend less time looking for the “right spot” and avoid door dings too!

2. Avoid the elevator and escalator. Stairs are usually an option, so take them instead.

3. Shop alphabetically. Don’t loop through the aisles, checking things off your list as you go. Alphabetize your items and go from point to point.

4. Get a post office box near your home. Walk to retrieve your mail each day. Walk your outgoing mail to a community mailbox, post office or mailing center.

Most importantly, though, get yourself a pedometer and begin to keep track of your steps. See if you can’t get yourself up to 10,000 steps a day. You’ll appreciate the results if you do!
